Netflix features a range of shows which can or might not be suitable for youngsters. With many parents performing from home thanks to the nationwide lockdown, it gets difficult to stay an eye fixed on the youngsters.
The OTT platform had brought in parental controls a while back. Netflix features a range of options which will be set to regulate what children watch on the platform. There are multiple ways during which a Netflix user can keep track of the content that their children are watching.
Here may be a list of options that will be employed by parents to stay their children’s profiles more restricted or for selective viewing.
Profiles are often created as per maturity levels: Netflix has given a choice to create five different profiles in one account. A maturity level is often set in each profile. Once this is often done, Netflix will only show age-appropriate content to the user. this will be done by getting to the Profiles page and by clicking on Add Profiles.
Profiles and Parental controls: To access any account, be it of youngsters or their own, parents must attend Account settings. Everything are often accessed from here. just in case parents want to line an age restriction or if they need to look at their child’s activity it is often done by clicking on Account Settings.
Viewing restrictions: Once a profile is about for his or her children, the subsequent step is to line viewing restrictions for youngsters of a particular age. this will be done by clicking on Viewing Restrictions from the Profiles and Parental controls. After clicking on viewing restrictions, parents can set the age bracket which they deem appropriate for youngsters. Netflix will then show only that content.
The different categories for age groups on Netflix are “All”, 7+, 13+, 16+, and 18+.
Profile lock: Children are often mischievous and that they may attempt to explore other profiles. For this purpose, Netflix features a profile lock option. A user can set a four-digit pin on every profile. The steps to vary the pin is:
- Click on profile lock
- Click on change
- Select "Require a Pin"
- Set a 4-digit pin
Control playback settings: Netflix users can restrict the choice of auto-playing back to back episodes of a series. They simply need to attend the parental controls and deselect “autoplay next episode during a series of all devices”
If they need previews to be played, they need to pick the choice of “autoplay previews while browsing on all devices”
Restrict specific titles: If parents don't want their children to observe a specific series or if they feel that some shows aren't suitable for them to observe, they will also remove those shows. By selecting “content restrictions.” they only need to type the titles which they are doing not watch their children watch within the “title restrictions list”.
Viewing history: Parents can browse the viewer's history of their children by clicking on viewing activity from the parental control list.
